        Dear Site Administrators.

I’ve posted a response to a thread but I wanted to make a slight edit, however there no longer seems to be a selectable edit button or feature.

        Here’s the thread:

        Regards,
        Ed.

EDIT: That’s strange, I can edit this thread which I’ve created, but not in the other thread that I linked to above.

          Ed,
You get a small number of minutes to edit the post, after that it is cast in stone.
          I know, I didn’t write it, and I wouldn’t admit it if I had.
          Cheers,
          Andy

I suspect that you are free to edit UP TO the time when someone else has read your post. … after which, it locks.

This would actually be quite reasonable from the Audit Trail point of view.

              Hi
I thought that you were free to edit your posts until the time time you logged off and then after that they are locked. As you say Michael it is a useful audit trail tool as any changes after this time can only appear as a new post which maintains the continuity of the thread.

              Cheers

The Gauge O Guild webforum has the facility to edit one’s own posts at any time. This is extremely useful, as it allows one to correct any errors, and works very well; I have never seen it abused. The site also has clear indications of new posts on threads of interest, and no blasted flashing adverts.

This site, by comparison, is quite awful to use, and plagued with dreadful adverts. I hope the designer is very embarrassed.

I fell foul of this issue early on when I first started posting here, and now being aware of the small window for editing posts, scan the message as soon as posted, making changes while I can, any changes after the edit facility dies just goes on as another reply.
I’ve even resorted to composing replies in a ‘new Email’ message, then copy/pasted it into the forum box and deleted the Email the reply was composed in.
Sometimes this works to my advantage, because at times I think better about posting that reply, and delete it before posting it up.

I’m using a few different forums, two of which allow no editing at all, and two (one of which is M.E.) which allow a small window.

David re – the animated Gifs, I’ve copied a reply I made from another topic below for killing the animations!
This fix only works in Firefox!
I don’t know of a fix for Internet Explorer, I don’t use it now as it’s so bloated it won’t run!
