Hello

Does anyone have details of design of the mechanical part of Mike Napps spark eroder. That was on show at the recent Warwick Show

Hi, if you are a member of SMEE, Mike will gladly share the details of the device.

This is not a simple design and requires the programming of a microprocessor.

It is a very efficient design however, there is another route.

Ben Flemming has produced 2 designs for an EDM, one is RC based and the other is a more advanced pulse design, both of which use readily available components and do not require a micro or any programming.

Search Yahoo groups for EDMHomeBuilders for more details or PM me, as I have both of the books and PCB’s in build if you require any further info

Not sure if I have the correct reference, but Mike Kapp (with a K, not N), published a simple EDM design here not long ago – I built a version which works well enough for me.

It is not a processor controlled system – uses a simple CMOS control circuit. The series of 4 articles gives all constructional details, and the thinking behind it, if you want to change things.

I have seen similar postings for a while now and have tried to build my own machine without success. I came across Pear Tree Engineering ( http://www.sparkeroding.co.uk ) to whom I posted a shaft with a broken tap which they removed sucvessfully.
It seems an easier and cheaper way than trying to build a machine whose performance may be doubtful.

Probably as the post is 2 years old!! MEwebsite has been changed about recently with a lot of projects taken off and only available on DVD
