      Afternoon.

I was wondering whether series of articles are published in a book format at any point? I am interested in the Garrett build series in the magazine currently. I have a few of the early parts but circumstances stopped me from getting subsequent issues. Do series such as these get published as a booklet or the like or will I have to start trawling the secondhand magazine boxes?!

      Thanks in advance

      Danny

Buy a digital subscription and you'll get free access to back issues, Unless you have W10 you won't be able to 'download and keep' the ones you've paid for, despite what it says in the advertising blurb

Remember that you cannot print articles from the archive that were published mid-January 2019 onwards. (Print facitity was removed)

              What about "Screengrab"? Paste etc?

Quality is very poor, unusable in my view.

I'm afraid I have to disagree, Steambuff. I tried it out – using Windows 10, Paint and an image manipulation program to crop the image, I produced the image below:

                  cover MEW288

OK. It may not be pin-sharp, but I would say it's perfectly useable and if you have no access any other way …..

Mind you, if it's a long article, you may have to set aside an afternoon or two! But that's not much different to the old pdf download business, if my experience with it is anything to go by.

Sorry … This is what I get when taking a screen shot in the MEW archive under Windows 7 and importing into Photoshop.

(I think that this is not readable when printed)

maybe time to upgrade to W10, simple snip of your image on the left and a snip from my screen on the right without any fiddling about with photo manipulating.

The latest "snip and sketch" works even better but uses a PNG file so can't upload it here

I just tried it with Gadwin PrintScreen on W7, again it's a png so can't upload here, but plenty legible. Especially if you wanted the drawings only, you just copy the bit you want.

By altering the settings on gadwin I could make it a jpg if need be

Um, why was the print facility removed?

The screen captures shown above aren't of sufficient quality to read on a screen let alone on paper, even when shown full size…

Images from your computer screen are only captured at the resolution setting and size of your screen and therefore are not that good.

I much preferred the ease of to printing a copy of a page from within MEW. But you can get a good, detailed copy in pdf format by using the PocketMags viewer. Its limited to only printing 2 pages at a time and takes less than a minute.

You can then use a pdf editing program to join all of the pdf prints into one book but my preference is to convert them to jpg file and use your standard photo viewer.

                            Paul.

Mark they are absolutely fine for reading on the screen it is just that the snipping tool is a low res image, just like scanning a document at 300dpi rather than 1200dpi so quality is not great.

Compare a quick 2.5Mb photo of the screen with the 100Kb images I posted above

                              20191210_065944[1].jpg

Facility was removed when the viewer was updated as it was not available on the newer version at the time, the readers of Hello and OK don't seem to have the need to print their mags!

You can also blow them up larger on the screen if normal A4 is a bit small.

As Paul says said paid subs are best viewed via pocketmags which is a better viewer and still has the ability to print 2 pages at a time but won't go back into the archive.

Thanks for the replies. I take it that a digital subscription allows access to all back issues?

Not ALL back issues, only back to a certain date (24th Aug 2001), but to be fair…. further back would I suspect require scanning.

Ha ha! I don’t need to go back that far! Just to the start of the Garrett series. I can see myself doing lots of downloading over the Christmas hols!

                                    cheers all.

A quick follow-up. I didn't know that Windows 10 had a snipping tool until I read Jason's reply. Just tried it and he's right – it is much easier and quicker and in my version has the option to save as a jpeg in the drop-down save menu.
