      Please correct me if I am wrong, but when the Pull Rod on the right hand side of Fig 5 is pulled the Brake Beam and Equalising Beam close together, further pulling movement is transfered to the Left Hand brake set and the shoes engage with the wheels, further Pull Rod movement achieves nothing!

      Surely the Brake Levers should Pivot on the Equalising Beams, that way initial Right Hand Pull Rod movement will engage the Right Hande Brake set and then the long rods linking the Equalising Beams with then pull the Left Hand Brake Set into engagement with the Left Hand wheels and vice versa?

          We may be missing something obvious, but…

          I can only see it working if the pull rods are pulled the opposite way to how they are shown in the diagram, assuming the whole assembly 'floats' on the brake hangers.

          Pull the right hand brake lever to the left and it pulls the brakes at the right end on, keep pulling and the equalising lever moves, pulling the left hand brakes on.
