I just tried to use the scanner on my Epson ET-4500 printer, only for the system to inform me that the scanner was not connected. Strange, as I had just used the printer. So- shut everything down, check connections and bypass the USB hub and connect directly to the computer. Fire everything back up, but still no scanner. I then remembered that I had a windows update two days ago. Removed this (KB5022834), rebooted and scanner now working. Why do Microsoft keep trying to sabotage my computer?

Browser software is the same, updates can cause issues for various reasons

and why does an "upgrade" always have to be bigger, contributing to bloatware issues

Why do Microsoft keep trying to sabotage my computer?

Because they want total control over it in a similar way to Apple!

I too run windows, and my scanner was reported as not connected. I had used it a week or so earlier, so I was a bit confused. I re-installed the software and it worked fine. The thing is, that computer isn't connected to the internet and has never had an update.

My USB modem disappears now and then

Unplug the USB, wait a few secs and plug it in again and it boots up fine
