        Hi,

I've recently finished my example of the clock. In the book he talks about the foliot vibrating 27 times. What's a vibration? Each swing of the foliot or the sequence , starting point- pivot out -pivot back to starting point, In effect a complete revolution?

        Thanks,

        Mark

As with a pendulum it is probably a full cycle, and from the number you can deduce it is per minute as it wouldn't be per second or per hour. However you tell us. Now you have built it unless it is running twice as fast or slow as any other timepiece you can count the number of full cycles per minute and see if it is about 30.

            .

            Bazyle,

Therein, I'm afraid, lies the potential confusion

Add to that, the fact that the Foliot/Verge is a hopelessly inaccurate timekeeper:

The only certain way to answer Mark's question is either to ask Mr. Wilding, or work back from the train.

Chaps the original post was a year ago, don't waste too much time on it.

                .

See … I said it was a hopelessly inaccurate timekeeper devil
