Any ideas what this is used for? All metal, probably steel, plated and stamped "German". About ten inches long. Came in a box of bits with a woodworking lathe, but that could be a red-herring, the seller had no idea what it was either. Thanks,

      Rob

          Looks like a saw set.

Indeed a saw set. But unlike the plier type, these take considerable skill to get an even set.

              Well, I’m amazed

It looked more like a wire gauge to me blush

Thanks chaps, the forum wins again. Like Michael, I was thinking some sort of gauge.

                Cheers,

                Rob

Looks like a gauge for sheet metal but could be a hole depth gauge.

Are the slots on either side different or are each opposite pair the same width?

If different not taper gauge, if same probably is a taper hole gauge.

This one was actually very simple

I just searched for the term that John Reese kindly provided.
