Does it really matter, so long as your feet still reach the floor.

My wife was once considerably taller than me but is now noticably shorter. I'm not sure if she has shrunk or I've had a late life spurt. We are both much broader in the beam though, so have certainly grown out sideways …

Fortunately (for my well being) she will not read this post either!

I have lost an inch in the past 5 years. Was always 5ft 10. But now 5ft 9. It’s an age think

I have not lost any height, Still 6ft 6ins, but for no apparent reason I have lost well over 2.5 stone in the last 12 months (started the day I had 1st jab ) I tried on a suit that I last wore when i was in my late 20s.It still had my Round Table badge on it. I will not say it was a perfect fit, but it was passable. Even my sports jackets, that had been long since consigned to storage, fitted really well. Pity that I no longer need so many suits etc. at 75 years of age though.

These days it tends to be rugby tops (that ones daughter seems to want to buy for birthday & Xmas), jumpers (daughter again) & trousers from the local tool shop. Socks & slippers (wife) same size as before. (Socks & the wifewink)

I am down from 6 ft to sub 5 ft 10". Years of leaning over machinery and heavy lifting took it's toll but worst for me is the ravages of Parkinson's. Medication helps but I doubt I will stand upright again.

My arms are getting shorter, or my legs are getting longer. Trouble reaching my feet to put my socks on in the morning.

                        Please advise.

I am much taller now as when I get down on the floor to reach under something it takes me longer to get up so it must be further so I must be taller.

My wife, who has some dementia, complains that all her clothes are too big for her. I try to explain that her frame has shrunk (loss of calcium) but she prefers the more logical explanation that "they" have taken all her clothes and substituted their own, larger, ones.

Thank you for the help. I find it harder to see things on the floor, therefore the floor must be further away. Problem solved. the legs are getting longer. I will measure them each week and record the results.

It's the beak marks on the top of your head that make you shorter

I may be getting shorter but my waist is getting bigger, anyone worried about losing height should get their platform shoes out from the 70s.

Yep, the spinal discs compress over time and lose their springiness, unfortunately. Not looking forward to it. I've only lost a little height so far, but it's only a matter of time. I do my back exercises, though, to help keep things mobile.

I lost my leg quite a few years back and up until that point had always walked in a very hunched and twisted manner (I was in my late twenties, maybe early thirties). Upon walking on my prosthetic for the first time I was able to walk straight and taller for the first time in my life. People didn't recognise me, I'm sure at least partially because I'd suddenly gained height!

A friend lost his legs to an IED and had always been quite short…. however if you get to chose the length of both your legs apparently there is a bit of latitude and you can elect to be a little taller if you like…. I think he rather pushed the boundaries though!

When does this getting shorter thing start? I'm still 1905 mm* despite years of trying to lose height by slicing bits of my scalp off on low beams, etc. – it does seem to have resulted in a successful reduction in hair though.

What I do is sit on the edge of the mattress and wedge my heel on the edge of the bed base, to crank my replacement hips to a suitable angle. I've been doing it for 8 or 10 years now (depending on which hip you're talking about), and I hope I don't dislocate 'em like my sister-in-law did.

One of my many medical problems is that of ankylosing spondulitis, a degenerative disease of the spine. First noticed when I was 18, now some 60 years later, I've lost over 3 inches due to the gradual compression of the disks in the back.

Which means that of my four grandchildren, only the youngest at age 6 looks up to me, the other three all look down at me.sad

But although the height has gone off my body, the floor seems to get further and further away. Can't understand it!
