I know that some would struggle to accept a Wilesco steam model as REAL model engineering BUt I have a wilesco boiler with a leak on the front plate, the mounting for the gauge glass is soldered into the front plate. It may have been caused by being run dry. There is no sign of the joint between the front plate and the barrel having run. They are not constructed with soft solder and I'm lead to believe that they are not SILVER SOLDERED some sort of half way house.Someone else has tried soft solder but they had not enough heat and have made a real mess. Any advice before I make a mess ? Yes I know I can get a new one for £50 but that would be to admit defeat !!!   Noel.

Thanks to all who have replied. I have ordered 2' of comsol from one of our suppliers as the postage was less than £2 Thanks Kevin, you have confirmed what would be my way of doing it, ie heat it part it, clean and reflux then resolder. Don't forget to bring drill bits to the Midland Chaps. Noel.
