A bit more on topic than some– I'm planning to make a new body (van) for my 2CV. I am trying to find jointers for square tube, steel and ally, 3/4" to 11/2" 20 to 40 mm. I've looked all over but all I can find are plastic, for shelfs and such like. Anyone know of steel /alloy ones ?

Gordon, have a look at Dexion Speedframe. Pretty sure that used metal connectors that fitted into the tubes with plastic inserts. For "temporary" structures you used to just knock them together with a mallet, but for more permanent set-ups it advised drilling and putting a fastener through to pin everything in place.

Also just found this link which might be what you're after, steel core, nylon coated.

Steel and aluminum together don't last long without special precautions. (Electrolytic erosion – rust). Even Al pop rivets in steel corrode away very quickly – especially on 2CVs. I know to my cost !!

Thanks for the input, I found the steel/plastic coated already. I do know about corrosion ! I'm thinking now about making the connectors from square bar. steel will be a lot cheaper but heavier. At the moment this is only a thought process. I have 2 modern chassis, 3 good engines, 4 g/boxs etc. but no body parts in usable condition. Thinking along the lines of Mehari jeep type body, not so much bending. Also have a g/box running in reverse so could resurect 4 wheel drive.
