Hello,

I hope someone can help me out with this. I basically need a stamp making to leave an impression in leather with some text approx 50mm x 40mm. It's not something I could do on a manual mill or by hand easily as it needs to be neat. I figured someone with a small cnc mill, engraver or laser engraver may be able to help? I guess it's best in mild steel but it doesn't need to be heated and Is just pressed into leather so maybe something softer like brass could be used?

Any ideas or offers to help would be much appreciated.

Another method may be to etch the design into a block of steel, process **LINK**

Certainly a good point, etching maybe a good option. The shopping list maybe the tricky part mmm.

If it's going to be used repeatedly I would stick with steel, it would be a shame to put the work into something that could wear quickly. Another option would be to have it CNC spark eroded.

Hi Tony, thanks for another alternative.

So far contacting local businesses has drawn a blank a company that said yes we'll fit it in and do it and a month later said they can't. Engineering places are never interested in little one offs if only someone could spare a lunch break or two

I would suggest that if this is for commercial use you go to an engraver who is very used to making exactly what you need, you will end up with crisp lettering from someone who is fully versed in the requirements to make stamps.

You might find someone with a cnc mill who can do the job, but engraving cutters are a little different and are usualy run at very high speed to produce smooth sided letters. Many signmakers offer engraving services.

A low power laser will not cut metal but they are in common use to make rubber stamps. Etching is fine for a foil but deeper etches undercut. Lasers will directly mark leather, I have engraved images and lettering into leather for many people, that's the delux option.
