          Brian,

Assume you know about/have the articles in ME vols 181-183 (Stan Bray) in 1998-1999.

Still on sale from Blackgates Engineering I think.

          No other info, sorry.

Yes Blackgates still list the set of drawings and should also be able to supply any castings that you are missing.

Moderators have three extra icons at the bottom of the posts.

Edit [ Handy when someone un-named gets into his drunken ramblings ]

Delete posting [ handy for the odd double post ]

and Send to Leper Colony [ handy if you are having a bad day wink ]

Unfortunately this bunches the bottom line up and it's easy to get the wrong button.

Graham got the hand bell and the unclean sign to wear for a bit laugh

No one is owning up to doing it [ is there a smily for whistling ? party ] but it's an easy mistake to get the wrong button.

Anyway sorted now and apologies to graham as it wasn't intended. Diane says it just sometimes happens anyway ?

Be even better if the used their real names instead of hiding behind a no-de plume and then signing Stan or Graham at the end.

I recently bought the drawings from Blackgates. I read somewhere, but I've lost the reference, that originally these beam engines where exported in kit form – including a flywheel in pieces. The flywheel in the drawing does not look like it would have been cast in full size. Can anyone suggest how such a flywheel might have been put together?

                                      cheers,

Nuts and bolts, one instance where they did not seem to use studs.

If you have a look at Phil's "Agnes" thread over on MEM he has some pictures of the 8 segments in his flywheel. Also Jo's Double Tangye thread has some sketches of how she intends to do the flywheel to look like it was in two halves.

Should be easy enough to add a few dummy flanges to make it look it was joined, bit like this

                                          Jason,

Many thanks, I'd missed that. This picture from Phil shows very clearly how you might put a flywheel together, including those wedges (cotters?) holding the spokes in the hub.

                                          cheers,
