      Hello,

      Does anyone know where I may locate a design for either an impulse (capacitor) or electromagnetic magnetiser, that I can construct?

            There was a build article in ME 1993 Vol 177 no 3942, "A Simple Magnetiser" by Malcolm Richards, I think this was a suitable bit of equipment for the job you want.

              Jim,

              You would be better off buying replacement neodymium magnets for you Hornby- Dublo motors. There are several suppliers on eBay. I fitted one in an old Duchess of Montrose 3 rail loco and it was transformed.

                Thank you John, Ian and Lambton,

                I will check out the design as in Model Engineer.

                Regarding neodymium replacement magnets, I have tried the block style as used in earlier H-D motors and found them satisfactory.

                My particular problem centres around the Hornby-Dublo solid ringfield magnet. I have found it difficult to get any information about re-magnetising this motor and I know of no supplier of replacement neodymium magnets to suit this style of motor.

                  You may already be aware of this site that supplies a variety of magnet for model locos including various sizes of ring field items.

                    I had not heard of this website previously. An enquiry email has been sent.

                    I really thought I was going to have to construct a magnetiser of some sort, but these ringfield neo-magnets seem ideal.
