      @jasonb

You may recall that Neil ( Stub Mandrel ) posted this thread a while back about lazer cut flywheels, well I've just done one with water jet cut parts which may be of interest.

As some of you know I'm building a larger version of Anthony Mount's Easton and Anderson Grasshopper engine which should have barring holes in the rim and + section spokes

I e-mailed .DXF files of these parts to the water Jet cutters (Sciss)

And this is what I collected a few days later

      imag1243.jpg

Add a few screw holes to hold it all together

      imag1246.jpg

With a hub added it was trued in the lathe and the spokes reduced in thickness from 8mm to 5mm

      imag1258.jpg

The spoke webs were a bit pricy so I cut my own

      imag1261.jpg

      And rivited them into place

      imag1264.jpg

All the internal corners were filleted, keyway broached and a quick spray of primer

      imag1278.jpg

And just for comparison here is fellow member Jo's nicely machined one looking through my flywheel

If you have not lost interest yet then I have done a more detailed write up on the flywheel in my build thread over on MEM forum

            Excellent Jason!

With water cutting I assume there was no hardening of the steel.

No thats one of the reasons that I went for it, machined a treat even on the 10" outside diameter with no backgearsmile p

There is a slight draft angle, if you look at the MEM thread there is a picture that shows a bit of light shining through between the edge and a square
