I’ve got the my 1/3 scale popcorn engine running, its still very much in its rough state, a fair bit of finishing work is required.

These engines were used in America to turn roasting pans on street vending carts selling popcorn, roasted peanuts and chestnuts.

The original engines are very collect-able in North America

Ok that worked, on the mac, but I know from past tries that I can’t post pictures through the mac.

Bin trying all morning o post using my new laptop including inserting a picture her and it keeps telling me that the site is closing the window !!!!!!!!!

Managed to open up a new album but thats as far as I can go.

I’ll try again on my old laptop.

              This is one frustrating site.

This one baffling site, it just doesn’t seem to like certain machines I’ve tried inserting a pic on my new lap top and it keps telling me the site is closing the window.

Any way as you can see completed the Popcorn Engine, I’ll post a video of it running soon.

A bit late I know but a big thanks to Jason for showing interest.

Thanks for you’re kind comment Jason, all I need is some 1/3 scale chestnuts.

As for my next project I’ve got a few ideas kicking oround my head and a 1/2 finished loco under my bench.

                          Thanks Neil

The potty came from my name Stew-pot and for a long time I worked in a design and development department, and were called the potty engineers because we kept comming up with wird and wonderful ideas, some would say novel. When I strated to put my worksop together one of my works mates said i suppose your going to call yourself pottyengeering and it sort of stuck. I now get phoncalls and deliveries adressed to – pottyengeering.

Would I be correct in saying ‘very steam punkish’ is possibly the phrase to use? I particularly like your ‘decorative’ machining and the use of the dime. Great conversational piece.

It’s a shame Crewe is such a long way away – it would certainly be an eye catcher at next years Forncett.

Congratulations on a very appealing result

If anyone would like to see my (very) occasional e-mails re the museum and get an invite to the next Model Engineers’ Day – first Sunday in October 2012 – just let me have your e-mail address.
Lots of technical interest re the engines in the museum and steam matters in general at:-

Hi Stew, Just arrived here – looks like you’re in good hands with Jason and Bill.

As you now know Forncett is not in the US but it’s still a fair haul from Crewe however it is a great place to visit if you are a stationary engine enthusiast. Andy and I of course being ‘good ol’ boys’ from Suffolk have to get a visa to cross the border.

Not wishing to take anything at all from Bill’s sterling effort this past show I’m sure he wont mind if I say that the open day for ME enthusiasts will see it’s twentieth birthday next year. It all began when a friend and I approached the museum to ask if we could take our Victorias there to steam on an open day. For the first year I think we went every month but that, predictably, got a bit too much. The idea of an ME day was mooted and the rest as they say is history. It was, in the past, always billed as ‘A Model Engineers Day Out’ a title which I think Bill intends to re-introduce for next year.

It’s been held on various days throughout the season – for the first few years it was in November but that always meant packing up in the dark. The last year it was held such was when the lights went out with a bang at three o’clock or so and just as one of the exhibitors, using his RLE engine for power, was pile driving a stake into the ground for one more time – we’ve always encouraged active participation – but whether there was any connection remains a mystery to this day
One year it clashed with the Wimbledon final which was rather good planning but now it seems October is the ideal month to finish off a steamy season and looks set to remain.

It’s a lovely situation for an event and one which for me at least has always lived up to it’s initial outlook – good models, good people, old friends, A Great Day Out

We’ve had exhibitors from quite a reasonable distance away in the past so perhaps we might encourage you – you’d be most welcome of that I’m certain.

                                              Regards – Ramon
