Not sure if it's what you mean, but they do list ready made binders on the My Hobbystore site.

There is a link at the top of this page.

            George,

DJ BOOKBINDERS **LINK** or phone 01929 481419. I have no connection with the company other than they were the ones that were recommended to me many years ago to bind my copies of ME by the then MAP. Hope this helps.

If you have access to back issues of ME, there was a series of article entitled "Binding a 'Model Engineer' Volume":

              1981 Vol 147, #3670  and  1982 Vol 148 #3673, #3675 & #3678

There are two downsides to having bound volumes as I see it.

1 when I make somthing from M E or M E W I scan and print the pages and put them in plastic sleeves to use in the shop . that is really difficult with a bound volume.

2 I sometimes like to read a few back issues in bed before I go to sleep, not very easy with a great big heavy binder.

                just my two pence.

The one 'official' binder I have uses 'piano wire' to hold the magazines in so they are easily removed.

Not too cheap though if you want to bind 20 year's worth of ME and MEW. I might invest in magazine boxes like we use at work.

I use magazine boxes, the old ones are good, but the newer ones are too wide, and the magazines slump in the box. The last six or seven years are in suspension files in a steel filing cabinet, room for another 10yrs or so. Ian S C

I use boxes as well, the ones from Staples (no connection) hold 40 issues.

Interesting that some of the readers on here have collections of ME magazines.

I was given a hard file with ME in PDF format 1901 to 2000's I have full volumes from the 1940's to 1970s. It is not complete there is a few magazines missing

The ones I don't have are from the 1980's and 1990's does anyone else have a digital archive before 2000

"Official" binders have thin metal rods inside the spine, each rod passing down the fold between the centre pages of a magazine. Taking my cue from this, I use old lever arch files, with the mechanism removed and string stitched through the top and bottom of the spine and running up the inside of the spine. Each magazine is opened out at the centre, and slipped under the string.

Problem is that, being retired, I no longer have access to old lever arch files with broken mechanisms.

                            Hi Andy

When we moved office at the end of last year enough lever arch files for both of us went in the skip. They won't accept them for recyclying because of the metal.
