I am gradually working my way through some of the larger castings and have found them to machine well with not too much to take off – until I came upon the cylinder!
I have been removing something in the order of .030 – .060 off the various faces but the cylinder bore which finishes at 1.500 started off with a cast bore of about 1.150!!
Thats an awfull amount of cast iron to remove – I had it all bolted to the large faceplate which required a consierable amount of balancing so I was keeping the speed low and as a consequence it took ages.
Is this done for a reason?
