I have several stationary steam engines built by my late father in the 70s,and.I am considering selling this one ‘double mill engine,TANGYE LTD. circa 1895 (although its probably the best, but looking at from a purely aesthetic non engineering point of view..it just doesn’t do it for me!!!)I was featured in Model Engineering Magaizine in the 70s and is exhibition standard.Could anyone give me some sort of idea what its worth??and how I should clean it,my husband wants to do it with the stuff he cleans his shot guns with but I thought I’d ask before I let him loose!!
        any information gratefully acepted.

will post photos if anyone can tell me how????

Can’t really help with price but I would tend not to clean it, a lot of collectors enjoy restoring old engines so you may be reducing your market if its sold all bright and shiny and over cleaning would remove that patina of age that you just can’t get any other way.

There are several auction houses that specialise in models like this, that may be the best way to get a valuation.

              Hi

A quick question for the experts, this has nothing to do with the valuation of the engine, but was it usual to fit double governors/regulators (one on each valve chest) on these engines?? Surely unless they they were very closely matched then one side of the engine would be doing most of the work.

I ask this out of complete ignorance regarding these models .

              Cheers

              Martin

PS.  Think I have answered my own question as MyHobbystore list the plans with regulators for each cylinder. That said I still find it a little odd .

Pugh’s are another that have models in with their other auctions.

I’m sure if you e-mail either of these the pictures above they could give you an idea of what its worth.

Just out of interest the double Tangye is still available from Reeves
