For anyone interested, here is my MT2 based chuck back-stop.

Very simple to make with a MT2 collet. My 12mm collet became generally redundant when I moved onto other collet systems, although it can reduce overhang which is still some times very useful

It is "equipped" with a short length of 12mm rod, drilled 4mm. The 4mm piece is set to length outside of the lathe (with the grub screw) and then the overall length is set in-situ by nipping up the collet. An alternative would be to drill and tap some 12mm bar and fit a threaded adjuster which could be fine set after the drawbar was tightened.

However for my purposes, the simple arrangement shown has worked well so far and was very quick to make. I use this version on my Super 7. I recently purchased a MT1 6mm collet (for £5) to fit my EW as I found this facility so useful. With the new, smaller version, I may well fit a 3mm machine screw into the 6mm setting rod, to enable fine adjustment. I'll skim the head of the screw used.

Obviously the fittings used can get more sophisticated and I did mount a brass disk quickly on some 12mm rod (for the MT2 version) to help position some thin work in my 3 jaw. Unfortunately, I needed a brass disc very near that size one evening and I'm afraid it got cannibalised but I will make some simple steel replacement ones eventually.

        Regards, IanT
