Me and Vertex BSO dividing head have cut many clock wheels over the years but yesterday it let me down it was stiff and the wheel I was cutting was scrap.
So I decided to strip it down to see what the problem was well once in pieces I was pleased to find that the quality was very good and everything is adjustable.
The mesh of the worm to wheel is adjusted by removing the index plate loosening the two screws in the slots and turning the handle boss simple once you know how, end float is adjusted by loosening the small screw at the rear on the spindle boss and tapping the ring round then tighten the small screw again.
The reason mine was stiff it was because it was jamming the worm was only just making contact with the wheel, so if the handle boss oil pot is not vertical or to the right then it could be you need to adjust it for backlash.
Had I known this last night I would have a correct wheel and have saved myself an hour or two stripping and assembling my dividing head.
