Evening all,

I am looking for material for the solid tool post mount, a solid block of steel 150mm x 100mm x 65mm or close to those sizes.

I have had a look online but haven’t found anything yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look?

M- machine metals will have something very close and give very good service.

You might also try steel suppliers to the injection mould trade , such as Hasco Inc. at http://www.hasco.com

Their quality of steel and the quality of finish of the plates is very high. Excellent supplier for high precision tooling steels.

That looks like a nice hefty chunk of vibration damping easy to machine cast iron all right Mr. Greene. And at a very reasonable price in Canadian dollars even! (probably less in UK due to no trans pond shipping needed)

I almost had one myself some years ago, Jeff. I was looking at them and the late JS said he had the casting and I could have it for free …. then we figured how much it would cost to get it here!

That tool post looks like a very good solution for any myford owner. I would have to modify unfortunately to make it work on my lathe.
I’d like a nice piece of cast to make my solid mount but steel will most likely be what I use.

I welded mine together out of a couple of pieces of 1" thick steel plate stacked on top of each other.

I have actually bought one of those toolposts, but rapid metals are also supplying a block of cast iron for a price I can live with so I have choices.

thanks for the help all, I’ll hopefully get the tool post sorted in the next week or so.
