I have a small quantity of monel 400 alloy , considering making a few valve seats for my locomotive out of this then pressing them in and using stainless spindles does anyone see an issue with this
Monel is a high Nickel content alloy developed for use in high temperatures, such as gas turbines, so you should have no problems with creep, or corrosion in a steam loco!
Monel is used a lot for tubing as it is very ductile and corrosion proof. It it quite soft, so using sharp tooling will be required. Silver coinage is a similar cupro nickel alloy.
