      I have a small quantity of monel 400 alloy , considering making a few valve seats for my locomotive out of this then pressing them in and using stainless spindles does anyone see an issue with this

          What engine are you making them for. A little more information would be helpful.

            Monel is a high Nickel content alloy developed for use in high temperatures, such as gas turbines, so you should have no problems with creep, or corrosion in a steam loco!

            Have no idea how it machines!

              Monel is used a lot for tubing as it is very ductile and corrosion proof. It it quite soft, so using sharp tooling will be required. Silver coinage is a similar cupro nickel alloy.
