Dear old Warco used to sell pots of their paint for when your machine got the chips, now they only have aerosol cans. Glum face.

Paragon have "Warco Machine Green" in pots starting at 500ml. I was reaching for my plastic but then they asked, "Gloss, Semi-gloss, Satin or Matt?"

Oy vey, see how they complicate my life. I would guess Semi-gloss, but does anyone have actual experience?

The two little pots that came with my lathe had the RAL codes written on them. If I had made a note of those, getting a suitable paint(two-pack car paint for preference) would be quick, easy and cheap.

I have small tin of green that was too dark for a 280V lathe and a aerosol i purchased for my GH600.

Neither are a match for my WM16B mill !!

I took the small swinging spindle cover off my WM250 and went to B&Q and got them to colour match some gloss paint. Worked a treat, think it was Dulux.

I'll just live with the chips and scratches. wink

Will have a look later and see if my unused tins have any numbers on them.

Paint matching in Dulux? No need to worry about mixing cellulose and enamel, bung it on with a distemper brush, I am so tempted. I have an old Warco Major I painted in Hammerite smooth, now crying out for a good splosh of emulsion. If only I had your devil-may-care liberated mindset. I blame my parents thinking

I don't actually have trouble finding Warco Machine Green paint, in fact my problem is having too much choice. Gloss, Semi-gloss, Satin or Matt? indecision

If it's the same shade they used a few years ago the RAL number is 6011 and it's called Reseda green , the same colour was used on quite a few makes of machine including Boxford lathes, Condor mills, quite easily available.

I've always used semi gloss for repainting and touching in machinery, seems easier to blend in, gloss seems to stand out too much. The Paragon I bought was a very good match, but obviously there may be slight colour differences between machine batches.

Depends what you are painting, quite a few people paint cabinets, stands, draws etc to match or complement their machines and you don't need machine enamel for that. Says he with yellow draws to go with the yellow bits on his lathe.

                          Reseda Green eh!

Nearly a tenner cheaper and none of your gloss, satin matt gobbledegook either.

Much appreciated, I'll give it a go smiley

Worked all right for me and quite happily sticks to cellulose that is on the machine. Only drawback is I still have a lot left. I can pour some into an envelope and post it to you! wink

8 YEAR PROTECTION… Blimey John, shame Warco didn't know about this stuff before they painted my machines indecision

I don't think they make envelopes big enough and why have you got cellulose instead of enamel?

However I am still sorely tempted to take you up on this most generous envelope offer, it's the monkey in me, little blighter has to stick his nose into everything and take a jolly good sniff. It'll be the end of him one day but what can you do? smiley

My Warco spare paint cans are unmarked apart from a dab showing the colour on the lid. No clues there.

Small cans too, about half a cupful, and judging by the weight less than half full. So far the paint on the machines has lasted well. No doubt by the time I need it, the spare paint will be well out of date.

Smith and Allen do RAL 6011 in enamel, both in aerosols & tins, 1 & 5 ltr. I used them for the primer, undercoat & top coat for my Denham Junior lathe and found the paint to be very good and chip resistant.

If you are 'touching up chips' and want to brush it on all you have to do is spray a bit into a tin lid and dip the brush in that. However the OPs problem might be painting the shed to match and the cost of spray cans might be a bit high. Mmmm matching green shed and machinery inside and out might be interesting face 7

I often wondered why I was getting such poor results on some jobs, but now I think it must be due to the many chips on my lathe !

When I was selling to the auto refinishing trade, many years ago we were asked to supply touch ups to a major car distributor where they were not available in this country. We won the order on the basis that we split a litre of paint between 5, not 4, 250ml tins and adding a splash of brushing thinners. A dab on the tin lid and that was it – basically a 25% profit from the start!

In the Midlands Jawel Paints have always given me excellent service for auto and RAL paints and similar.

Another excellent paint supplier is Sayers in Northampton Paint Matching They mixed up paint for my car after several others said they could not do it. The paint was a special one year only release. I had it made up in spray cans (£13-50 for 400ml) to test the colour match of both shades. It was as perfect as my eyes could detect. They can do it paint cans 5ltr down to 250ml. No minimum order I believe. Very friendly & helpful staff on the trade counter. They have a spectrograph ? to match the paint and can work on samples through the post as well.

                                            regards

Job to tell from a photo, but the touched up bit looks very dark for Reseda green, the tin I have would be a match for the panel just visible in the background. Mine is from Paragon bought when they were Stationary engine parts and is labelled Warco green and underneath Ral 6011 Reseda green, and is a good match to a Warco mill of about 2004 vintage. Apologies if I led you astray obviously there must be different Warco greens!

Went to check the tin of touch up paint for my WARCO Economy Mill. Put in such a safe place as to be invisible!

With a machine of that age, a few scars are inevitable! You should see my lathe where 20 years of brushing off swarf have scoured the top coat away in places. But it still machines metal satisfactorily.

It is possible that the colour will differ from machine to machine, if the exact RAL number is not specified. I always think of it as "Industrial green" because that is what most machine tools are painted.

So a mill from one Chinese factory may differ in colour from a lathe from another factory. And maybe the same applies to lathes, or mills from different factories. (i e Rong Fu Industrial Green may not be the same as from Weiss.

Accepting some of the quality control issues that have been seen, the colour might even vary from batch to batch!

I'll say it does! My Warco tins of touchup green and yellow don't even match the machine they were issued with.

My guess is that they source it promiscuously from whoever's selling on lowest price and leadtime, and that machine paint and touchup pots might come from separate suppliers validated on a casual colour match.

But hey! I don't really care – they still look better than rusty exposed chips, and the machine does what it should irrespective.

I should add that the Myford-labelled paint I bought for the Speed 10 I used to have had the same issue.

                                                      I didn't care then either.
