Hi, Have been watching Mark Preslings U Tube videos of his sand muller build, would like to build one as i'm getting to old and weary to be mixing by hand!

any idea where i can obtain the steel tube for the roller, 170mm dia by 160 long

as you can see i only need a short length, needs to have a reasonable wall thickness, i live in Oxfordshire near Chipping Norton.

      Richard

M-machine have a couple of thicknesses in 168OD and will cut to length

Possibly a rear roller from a cylinder type lawn mower.

As Les says rather than slavishly following a design see what is to hand. Eg saucepan with plate welded on, multiple discs eg weight lifting discs that turn out to be concrete not nice iron. I'm no expert but think a muller rather than a mixer is more for oil bonded sand that is caked in use.

Keep updated on what you make – I hope to need one too one day (due to need to use not due to debility).

                Hi, Thank you Bazyle.

I am using oil bonded sand, tried Greensand can't get on with it, my problem nothing to do with sand quality.

Steel lamp posts – sometimes see them at the scrap yard. I found a bit of 8" some years ago for a log stove chimney

Or a condemned air compressor tank?

As a temporary stop gap have some turned from some Oak or some other hard wood

Just to save too many more from making suggestions of rather thin tube the one in the video looks to be 10mm wall and is a "tyre" around some old lifting weights, the 12mm wall stuff from M-machine that I suggested earlier is more in keeping with whats likely to be wanted.
