      Hi All,

I have a large box of new unused bearings of all types and sizes that came in a lot from a house clearance guy I deal with.

As you probably know we run a small EBay business and I have listed a few with very little response. They are going to be a real pain to describe in detail and frankly I cannot be bothered with them! I will keep some of the smaller sizes for odd jobs but the rest are in the way..

So if anyone has a particular need for any bearing races I can offer members on here some for free paying only postage. Really looking here to help out someone with a need for a project etc. Happy to rummage through them to satisfy a need for a particular type or size but do not know a lot about the ins and outs of bearings in detail!

Hopefully this might help someone out. If there is any interest I can post a general photo or two to show what is there.

If any of the mods feel that this is an inappropriate posting please feel free to delete.

      Cheers, Martin

          Martin,

This is supposed to be a helpful comment:

Based on experience, it will be better for you to list size, with/without shields/seals and quantity in the format below, otherwise you will run around in circles trying to accommodate all enquirers.

          inside diameter x outside diameter x width – open/seals/shields – qty.

          eg. 8 x 22 x 7 mm – open/2RS/zz – qty.x

          Good Luck, Ketan.

            Martin,

Ketan is absolutely correct as bearings are size and type specific. Ones that do not conform to a potential byers specification have no value to him at any price.

            Good luck +2

Ketan, many thanks, point taken! Quite a bit of work but will have a go. What is the 2RS/zz ? is that on the bearings? Are there different types of seals and shields please?

I guess that I was thinking that someone may have a project thaty might fit the bearings I have, a kind of cart before the horse deal!

I'll post some pics later anyway.

              Cheers. Martin

As you can see many are not boxed, quite a few have labels showing what they are.

I am tending towards just taking them to a car boot and selling the lot to a trader perhaps but if anyone sees something that is of use let me know.

Ther is no way I'm going through that lot with a magnifing glass!

                    Cheers, Martin

Yes, 2RS means two rubber seals and zz means two metal shields.

Looking at the pictures, the bearings which are in their original packaging should be kept that way, without opening them. Just write down the bearing number as stated on the packaging – Brand – and qty.. There are some very good brands there in their original packaging. They do not loose value.

For the rest, it would be difficult to confirm the quality of the loose bearings. Still you can make a note of the bearing numbers marked on them. Most bearings are marked with bearing numbers which are in accordance with international bearing numbering systems, which in-turn translate into known sizes.

                            Ketan.

                              .

I maybe being a bit crass here and some may be horrified at my blanket statement.

Those is sealed packaging are desireable.

ZZ or RS ones (enclosed types) not in packaging maybe of some use but then there is the hassle of going through and measuring them and then logging them. Some maybe metric and some of course imperial.

The open type bearings that are not in any packaging and therefore exposed to the crud of the world. IMHO chuck them in the bin.! surprise Maybe of some use as spacers for holding work on a milling table and similar though.

                              Nick

                                My thoughts exactly Nick.

Over the last 30 years I have managed to fill a 4 drawing filing cabinet with surplus bearing in the hope they come in useful one day.

TBH it never happened, all that did happen is I'd spend 1/2 hour at commercial rates looking for a two pound bearing.

About a year ago I loaded the whole lot up into the truck and weighed the lot in.

Result, more space, less clutter and no wasted time looking for something I'd never find.

Some interest via PM etc which I will try to help out with.

JS, I can certainly see what you mean, just seems a shame when they may be useful to someone.

Nick G, There are quite a lot in non original but sealed packaging but the rest are as you say exposed etc.

I have taken out a few small ones for possible future small projects, one of them thar thingies for pushing work in the chuck to make it run true etc smiley; grinding spindle etc etc

Have used one already to make my rusted up wind vane go round again, wondered why the wind was ALWAYS NE!wink

                                  Cheers, Martin

If no use as bearings, the width, (not Diameter) will also be very accurate, so even the internally dirty ones could be used as precision spacers.

Another alternative use: one company for which I worked, used to push worn/redundant stock ball races onto pieces of tube, which were then fixed to plywood to make crawling boards for fitters working beneath vehicles.

Seems a pity to waste "good" material. It might even be worth someone spending time washing out and relubricating new but dirty races.
