I need a small quantity of stainless steel washers to go between brass surfaces in my jovilabe.

Prices for imperial ones are crazy! Off eBay I found I could get 1000 M3 stainless steel washers for about the price of 20 1/8" ones!!!

Assuming they are to spec M3 ones have a 3.2mm hole and will actually be a better fit on 1/8" stainless rod than 1/8" washers which have clearance!

Yes I could make a punch tool, but at £1.89 for 50…

Weelll, when you think about it, just one washer on its own, by post, is likely to cost getting on for a quid! What with postage, the packaging and the labour time to collect, count and dispense. Then there is labelling and possible invoice/receipt printing costs an dc records of sale to be retained. And ten per cent to epay, and more to payfriend. Yes, def better to buy multiple units!

It was the disparity between imperial and metric that got me. Of course eBay USA has plenty of 1/8 washers!

                  Neil,

Metric ones have looser tolerances than Imperial ones

… so they should be cheaper devil

Maybe they're dimensioned such that the bit punched out of the middle is just the right size for a smaller washer ….. and so on. (Though I guess if you were actually going to make them that way, you'd use the reverse sequence – small to large).
