I'm looking for a small-ish quantity (1 pc 300mm/12" long would do) of 3 x 3 mm square bright mild steel.

I can find plenty of 1/8" and 4mm square, but that's not what I need!
There are a couple of suppliers on eBay, but they want about 7x the cost of the metal to send to Ireland (using the eBay GSP and won't negotiate).

I realise that postage costs aren't cheap, but £7.95 for something that can be sent as a small packet is extortionate. Any links to other suppliers would be welcome.

Well thanks for the various suggestions.

I'd already thought about taking some thicker material down, but decided I didn't need the practice. There is an Argos in Cork but they don't want to let me have steel bar of any size. I'd seen that supplier on eBay and although his postage is slightly cheaper than elsewhere, £10 for a small piece of steel still seems excessive to me.

So, I have put my faith in the generosity of fellow subscribers here. Thanks for the offer Nick – pm sent.
