I am having trouble finding d 13 camlock pins 7/16 unf for older type back plates and wandered if I could make some myself and what material I should use has any one any thoughts on this the major size of these pins is 9/16" thank you in advance RHeard.

They are available from Rotagrip but will set you back £56. Could you change the backplate to a metric one? They usually come withe the pins Eg Warco sell them.

To answer the OP's question, I'd suggest you use some form of carbon steel that will allow you to harden them once you have made them. The dimensions are given in the drawings but there is no mention of material or hardness. I can copy you the original document if you are interested (PM me).

Apart from needing to set them up carefully and machine them accurately, the basic shapes involved are fairly straightforward. I only made up the mating parts but I imagine a rotary table in the milling machine would be the way to go if you want to make the studs yourself.

I'm sure I've seen these on sale in a few places but not at a particularly appealing price.

They have been recommended on the Practical Machinist forum

Do check that they are imperial though.

I have used their enquiry service before and received a reply in two or three days that they were OK to ship to the UK and the cost of shipping was very reasonable. At that price you might consider a second set as it's not likely to push up the shipping costs that much.

hi thank you all for your input / I think maybe if I re drilled the cam pin holes in between the originals @ re tapped 10mmx1 and used metric pins from myford it could be the cheapest option Richard
