            Jason,

            I am intrigued by this

            a) Do you have a reference ?

            b) How did they get the light in ? [unless, of course, they used a small dome removed from a building]

Remember as boys we used to have small magnifying glasses and use the sun to set paper and wood alight but that was in Rhodesia.

I don't remember trying wood, but we did set paper, and cigarette cards, alight with magnifying glasses, even in the UK.

I am down for a few weeks in purgatory for all the ants I popped with my 4" 'Magnet' magnifier.

ISTR similar techniques are used for making large domes and similar structures by spraying concrete. It may be that LNG storage tanks are made that way, its a few years since I was reading about them so I may be mistaken.

The second item here is an interesting variation on the theme.
