Whilst at school we used to make a screwdriver as a project

we warmed up the screwdriver spindle and forced it into a predrilled hole in a plastic material that was translucent yellow and sometimes it was fluted

we had turned a nice dome on the end and a finger stop groove near the blade and polished it to a high polish

Where could I get some of this material from

was it cellulose acetate butyrate? CAB

seem to remember GPO screwdrivers were made of this too

I remember that stuff. The only place I could find where you might get it in small quantites is:

          Northern Industrial Plastics Ltd

          Stock Lane
          Off Peel Street, Chadderton
          Oldham
          OL9 9EY

Small lot material and masterbatch distributor.

          T : 0161 624 9479
          F : 0161 678 8877

I'm sure that there are other places that could get it in though – any thermoplastics supplier ought to be able to, really.
