Hello Fellow Hobbyists

I am wondering whether anyone would be interested in preserving a very early Drummond lathe. My information is that it is No 7. I assume that that is its serial number, although not being familiar with Drummonds I may be wrong – it might be the model.

It belonged to my late uncle and is now owned by his son. It would certainly make an attractive addition to a collection of historic machine tools but is a viable proposition as a hobbyist's lathe. It currently 'lives' on the Isle of Wight.

Looking at the Drummond section of Lathes.co.uk should allow you to identify the model type. If the number 7 is stamped on a number of parts it is likely the way they kept track of the bits that they had matched up in production.

Numbers on Drummonds are as Bazyle says assembly marks . Flat bed lathes have the serial nmbr on the bed at the tailstock end . Unfortunatly a serial number is not a reliable guide to anything on a Drummond , there are known duplicates and the factory system was odd to say the least.

You will find a very decent bunch of people at the facebook Drummond/Myford Lathe Owners and Enthusiasts group. A great deal of experience and knowledge I know that many have reservations about FB but I have no problem with it. A photo here would be most helpful too.
