        Hi

I have searched everywhere but can't find a source for copper washers to fit a standard glow plug or 1/4 x 32 spark plugs

        Can anyone help

        Thanks

        Dougie

Dougie – I may be wrong but I don't think you will.

In a lifetime of aeromodelling I don't think I've ever seen any as 'spare washers'. All the glow plugs I've bought always came with one.

It's easy enough to turn one though if you have some copper bar but make sure you anneal it before using it.

          How many do you need?

Minimag do them for the 1/4 x 32 spark plugs which will fit. You can also get various thickness copper shim washers from several of the ME suppliers that are used to adjust the position of screw in steam fittings but they tend to be a bit thinner

Once again Jason you have come up trumps

              Thankyou

Well there you go Dougie – you (one) can learn something everyday!

A glow plug washer is usually much thicker that the shim washers for steam fittings though of course useable if the plug doesn't go in too far on some engines.

Usually the plug washers are 0.8mm thick or 1/32 of an inch. I did not see a thickness for the washers for spark plugs, but they will work for glow plugs. An interesting thing about the 1/4 – 32 glow plugs, is of the plug body enters into the chamber a little bit, a better performance has often been noticed. It is not from the small gain in compression ratio, but to to the gain of how the fuel is ignited and burnt. The same is being investigated with spark engines too.
