I'm assembling a 1" Minnie for a friend, and I'm a little mixed up on how the steering chain assembles, I think it should assemble in two parts one to the left hand of the front axle and one to the right hand of the front axle, the two halves wind round the drum in opposite direction so that when one side tightens the other loosens, but I've got it in my head that on full size engines the chain is in one continuous length, I've read the appropriate section of Les Mason's book but I'm still none the wiser.

Are there any traction engine builders out there who can get me stearing in the right direction. (Pun Intended)

Two separate chains.

On the minnie which has the steering wheel on the left, fit as follows looking from above the engine and it facing away from you.

Chain from right hand side of the axle passes over the drum, just left of centre, winds around drum about 1.5 times and fixes to left peg

Chain from left hand side of axle passes inder the drum just right of centre and also under the other chain, about 1.5 winds aroud drum and fixes to right hand peg

That's it the chains cross over I knew I was wrong some ware in my thinking but I couldn't for the live of me see what.
