Having bought a set of stainless steel screws to mount the cylinder of my Minnie I gave it some thought and wondered if they were the right material? I should add it will not be a regular steaming engine once completed and probably run on air most of the time. I would have used gumetal but seems hard to buy (or hex material

I made mine from Bronze hex which is fairly easy to get hole of in BA hex sizes. For light use stainless should be OK, its what I have used on my larger Fowler.

I wouldn't use SS in a boiler, it can suffer all sorts of issues unless you know the exact grade. OK in superheater because no liquid water. If your boiler inspector is on the ball he might well fail it with SS screws.
