Hi, my name is Rob. I'm writing to ask to get in contact with anyone who has built a 3inch scale Engine in Oz or NZ. I would like to know if you bought your castings in Oz/NZ, had them cast from your own patens, or imported them from the U.K.

      Regard and many thanks,

      Rob

          Welcome to the forum Rob.

We only have a limited number of TE builders on the forum and not many of them are from your part of the world though our member Paul may be able to help, this is his 6" engine thread

I would suggest you join Traction Talk Forum and then ask in the miniatures section. Off the top of my head there is Doug Mellor who has a 3" Fowler A7 built partly with castings from MJ Engineering here in the UK, castings from his own patterns and fabricated parts. There is also Suctionhose (Ross Bishop) he has a 3" maclaren and has recently started a 3" Fowler ploughing engine, both from UK sourced castings. There are a couple of others as well. (You will need to join before you can see the two engine links)

There is a 3" Alchin builders' group, I think, in Victoria. I think they have castings available.

              Hi Rob,

Bought my castings and gears from Live Steam Models in UK. Finished gears were cheaper than I could have them made in Aust. Everything else fabricated from local supply.

There used to be a 3" Alchin not too far from where I live, I think it's still some where around Canterbury(NZ). This is as near as I get, it is a Fine Cast model that I built for a friend who had a full size Alchin Royal Chester. Ian S CAllchin Royal Chester

Thank you all for your replies. I have been able to get in touch with the 3" Allchin group and they have been very helpful, to the point I will be purchasing the plans and the first set of castings in the near future. Will let you all know when I start construction. Thanks again,

                  Rob.
