I'm building a 3.5 inch County Carlow and currently working on the cylinder blocks and from the drawings it looks as if the valve bobbins should float on the valve rods rather than being tightened up on the spindle. This is my first build with piston valves so would appreciate some advice please.

      Thanks Pete

Following advice from others I've made my bobbins float on the rod so that they self-centre in the bore, however they shouldn't have any fore/aft movement as that would affect the valve timing.

That makes sense, thanks for your help.

I'm currently working on the cross head water pump for my 3.5" County Carlow and thinking about increasing the diameter of the pump ram from 5/32 to 3/16 thinking I can bypass any excess delivery. I would appreciate any thoughts on this. Many thanks Pete
