I have recently acquired a live steam model that I believe was designed by Henry Greenley for the Model Engineer in the 1930’s.It was later revised by his son-in-law, who I think was called Steel. Can anyone help with information, particulaly which Volumes of the M.E. covered its build? I first saw this model 50 years ago as a boy,& my aim is to return it to steam. Some small items have gone astray, namely the ashpan & grate.Look forward to your advice.
        Mike.

HG did a couple of articles on traction engines in the 30’s. It’s possible you have the original 1″ scale ME traction engine which was described in Volume 68.

Have aquired M.E. volume 68 & indeed John the model I have is the one described therein. However it actually started in Nov; 10th 1932 & ran to the end of that year also, so I am now looking for these issues , or Vol; 67.Maidstone engineering hold the H.G. archieve & have the drawings of which they are sending me copies. These will compliment the ones that Stew kindly helped me with, that were of the later revised model by Ernest Steel, H.G.’s son-in-law.Many thanks to those who have helped to date.
                        Mike.

I remember the revised series by Mr. Steel starting In the M.E. in I think 1958.

Hi, Maurice is correct, the series by Mr. Steel started in issue 2955 9th Jan 1958 vol118 and then continued in every other issue, with the exception of the Diamond Jubilee issue 2971 1st May 1958 and concluded in issue 2981 10th July 1958 vol119.

                            Regards Nick
