      Help …………………(pretty please) ………..
Can anyone tell me which magazine issues contained the build series for Malcolm Stride’s Nemmett 15cc engine please?
I’m being driven to distraction by google only throwing up keyword spam or their interpretation of what they think I’m looking for instead of what I specify, I’ve run out of variations on my search theme and given up.

I know the volumes are 196 & 197 at least, and I’ve bought a few copies containing parts of the series via eBay, which have yet to arrive.
Trying to trawl google and the ME indexes is an exercise in futility.
The M.E. indexes are great, but I don’t think all the articles are indexed, or if they are I’ve not found a way to find them,
The search facility on here is worthless too, as nothing comes up at all, you can put Nemmett into the search field on this very forum, and despite there being a ‘Nemmett’ article four lines down on the first page, the search returns ‘nothing found’, how daft is that!

      Any help Much appreciated,

      Many thanks in advance,
      John.
P.S. are any more plans for this engine or variants ever likely to be printed?
      JW.

          Hi RJW
You can find all but one in the Digital issues.
You are a subscriber I hope?
          regards David

            Hi There
            Started in 4273.
Probably every other issue until 4289 inclusive.
I have one original Nemmet set of plans for sale at £30 + £5 postage if anyone is interested.
These came from Malcolm Stride, they are not copies.

            regards David

The 15S articles started in 4271 and continued in alternate issues as David has said.
I use the ME index downloadable from here and a quick search under Nemett shows you may find the intervening even numbered issues uesful as they include some drawing corrections and letters pertaining to that model.

                Cheers, Andy

Thanks Andy, I did download the indexes in the end but haven’t opened or run them yet.
I only searched the indexes online, so maybe that’s where I cocked up.
Thanks again David, got your message and will be sending funds very shortly.

I’ve tended not to bother subscribing to the digital mag’s because of the vagaries of internet access – we spend 5 months of the year in France and only have a crap dial-up connection, so the digital editions would be a non starter for me at a time when I’d have more chance of reading them.

This has cropped up recently on another forum I’m on.
Many people think Malcolm Strides book on Miniature Internal Combustion engines contains details of the Nemett [ note the spelling ] because it’s on the cover but it’s not and covers general design.

There was a build book printed that goes with the plans which outlines the various methods used.

I recently bought a job lot of books from a guy who had died and there were some of these books and plans in the box . Unfortunately I can’t check just what the contest are as this box and others are in storage but I will be collecting it shortly.

About as subtle as a rubber cosh JasonB, but point taken.
However, I must confess to being relieved to see that the editor himself is a human being too …………..

John S, I got fooled with the book cover too, which seems to imply that there will be build info on that engine.
The book was only available online, and being unable to browse it before buying, found it a bit of a disppointment to find it didn’t live up to the promise.
it’s still a good book for all that, but I’m not sure I’d have bought it otherwise.

When you’ve had a chance to sort through the books, I’d be interested in anything you decide to dispose of …….as long as I can afford it .
I’ve managed to get hold of half a dozen M.E. mag’s with the article so far, but think there must have been a run on this stuff considering how scarce it all is.

I am hoping eventually to publish the twin.
I have a set of plans on the way as well as the book of the build.
I have an email from Malcolm saying I can publish if I want.
                          regards David

Actually I agree with John and I can’t spell either and I also often mistype. You usually get a clue when the search engine says something like ‘did you mean Nimitz?’

I have given up with Google as too often I was opening a web page it had found and the web page says ‘noting found’. Obviously Google were just selling advertising space irrespective of whether there was anything relevant to buy.

Sometimes the web page has changed since the time that Google had last indexed it. When that happens, press the back button to go back to the search results, and then click on “Cached” next to the search result of interest. This returns a snapshot of the page as it was when Google indexed it.

As for this forum, search is really poor. This must be the only forum software that only allows one to search thread titles and not the content.

OK been and collected two boxes of books, there were four boxes but two are still hiding so not sure what is in those as they were never undone.

So at the moment I have 5 books and 6 sets of plans all brand new except that one book has all the material sizes highlighted in highlighter pen.

One thing that puzzles me is all the drawings are clearly marked Nemett 15S – 15cc SOHC Four Stroke Engine, sheets 1 to 15.

However the book clearly states “Constructing the Lynx”
“Note: This is designed to accompany the full A3 engine drawings. It does not contain any drawings. “

So is the Lynx and the Nemett the same engine ? Looks to me as it is because I can’t see any differences but it would be nice to know.

Malcom changed all the names to big cats, the 15S and Lynx are the same.

We were in contact with Malcolm a while before his death with a view to doing the Nemett as a project for building it by CNC.
We didn’t get very far on this, Malcolm send us some drawings and details and was interested in the concept and gave the OK on using his design.

He was also talking about having his X3 converted to CNC but again situations changed.

I never had the opportunity to meet Malcolm as all correspondence was done by phone or email.

Having built the Nemett as my first engine, my plan was to build David Parkers V-twin which did fly. Can’t remember which ME’s that one was in, think it started in Jan 1986, but I think it a better choice than the Nemett twin, which IIRC is “more of the same”.

Malcolm Stride’s article on the Nemett 15S was superlative, the detailed step by step build and photo’s made it an accessible build for anyone. The article is that good I don’t you don’t need the plans. Importantly, all the material “errata” were flushed out before then end of the series

                                          David,
Just the book on the Lynx and the plans.
We were looking at taking a published design into CNC and making the parts.
Originally looked at ET Westbury Kiwi and a nice engine but being an engine made from castings it wasn’t as easy as a bar stock engine like Malcolm’s.

The casting and material kit for the Kiwi was also frighteningly expensive compared to Malcolm’s.

Not having taken Model Engineer for a long while I never got to read many of Malcolm’s articles. How many previous engines did he publish ?
The regular feature he published IC Notes or similar, are there any plans to publish this as a book or magazine ? I feel there would be a lot of interest but I suppose a lot depends on copywrite issues since his death.

                                          John S.

I don’t recal him publishing any other engines at least not in ME.

As for publishing his “IC Topics” as a book or a mag, if anyone takes out a subscription to ME be it paper or digital thay can read them all on line as a free bonus as they are all available on this site. Well I think one issue has been missed when they were all originally scanned.

                                              Hi There
Can anyone supply me with PDFs of the Nemmet 15cc engine.
I mean the articles which appeared in Model Engineer.
                                              Payment by agreement.
They would need to be good quality and would need to be Descreened which most scanners can handle.
My copies are packed up for moving house.
                                              regards David

Apologies David, I seem to have lost a couple of the mags in the series and one is covered in oily paw prints, so I’m afraid I can’t help.

I should have the copies somewhere in my workshop. Do you still need these?

OK, I have all but ‘episodes’ 1 and 2. Will take a few days to scan them, is jpeg OK, don’t think I can do pdf here?
