Hi. Is there any information regarding a parking brake on any of the three truck Shay type locomotives, this one being built in 5″ gauge. A fellow club member is concerned there is no reference to these on any of his previous drawings/contacts. Appreciate any replies, thanks.

I have had a look at my book of the Climax another geared locomotive. there are no parking breaks. Remember these (Shay, Climax etc) are geared locomotives. That is the steam engines are geared down to the wheels. When you try to push the locomotive along the wheels are geared up so you have to push the locomotive much harder. remember the old adage the loco pulls the train and the train stopps the loco.

Have just done a Google on both the Shay and the Climax.  There are small break blocks in the photos.  The Shay has a Westinghouse air pump on it.  The Climax seem to have a single central pull bar.
