Does anybody know of any firms that will fabricate steel traction engine rims?
      Size is typically 16″ ( 400mm) diameter by up to 4″, ( 100mm) wide.
      Preferably in or near Essex.

I know several people who have had rims and smokeboxed rolled by the following. Not sure if they will do the tees and weld them in as well.

You could also ring Alan at MJ Engineering, he has recently started to get the Fowler rims made up in steel rather than the cast alloy, he may give you details of his fabricators who do very neat welding of teh tees.  The 3″ rears are about 18″ dia so within your size range

            Hi Jason,
Thanks for that info, I shall follow it up. I am deigning and building a Fowler B6 Road Loco, on rubbers, in 1/5 scale , I can’t cope with the logistics of a 3″ scale one, and 2″ is a bit too small.

Sounds an interesting project, I’d like to see some pics of that. I’m quite well advanced on an MJ 2″ Fowler A7, you can see my progress here.

If you are not a member have a look at Traction Talk Forum, although mostly full size they have an active model section and there are a couple of members with model B6s including Edward George who may be able to help with any queries even though Galanthus is 6″ . There is also a guy who goes by the name IanB6 who has made several 4″ B6s and has a small foundary so could probable help with casting if you need it.

On and there is a good series of build photos of a LSM 6″ crane engine here and a look back through the old magazines on line here has a few Superlions and shows the built up compound cylinder blocks if you are going that route.

Thanks for those links, sorry, don’t have much in the way of photos as yet.  I’m OK for the cylinder block, as I’m using a spare that I had cast for my Fowler Z7S ploughing engine about 15 years ago, – about time it got used for something!
