      Here's a heads up.

In the most expensive scrappage scheme of all time Elon Musk's used Tesla Roadster will be launched into a Mars-Earth orbit at 18:30 UTC/GMT on top of a Falcon Heavy.

Falcon Heavy is the biggest launcher since the Saturn V. It comprises three Falcon launchers tied together with mechanical (not pyrotechnic) links. The outer launchers will (hopefully) land at Cape Carnaveral and the inner one on one of their drone ships.

Live video will be streamed by SpaceX at:

Launch now at 20:05 GMT, apparently suffering from high altitude wind (don't we all face 21)

My imagination ran riot when I read that the three cores had 27 Merlin Engines generating more than 5 million pounds of thrust!

Always knew those Merlins were good uns! 😉🙃

                    Supersonic Spitfire, anyone?

They have to put a dummy load on it, so why not get the free advertising?

Delayed an hour because of wind shear.

Not only making an enormous rocket but putting one of his cars on it!

That all seemed to go like clockwork! They make it look too easy. Those two boosters landing simultaneously was just amazing.

                                Really awesome!

Its one of those things where my instinct would be to land them miles apart as it would be 'safer', but then when you think about it, if you can control one booster landing to within a few metres, you just have to do the same thing twice.

Agreed the boosters landing almost exactly like the simulation was unbelievable!

Not holding out hope for the centre core though – the drone ship landings tend to be risky.

Very expensive hype but perhaps there is no such thing as bad press. I am too old to understand these things.

It's already being hailed "a success".

(Apparently a major part of the test was the first stage separation …. which actually worked).
