I have a boring. bar which came with some tooling. It has the following on it

S-SR-SCLCR09 . Not easy to make out the lettering, The first S may be incorrect and the L is very indistinct. The insert has a diamond shape and has sides of 9mm and an 80 degree angle. It is retained by a T15 countersunk Torx screw.

I have looked up the meaning of some of the symbols and have concluded that the insert is an SCLCR09 type, although I am not certain. Can anyone tell me the correct designation for the inserts?

I don't wish to make an expensive mistake when ordering new inserts!!

        Regards,

        Andrew.

The designator listed is a description of the type and hand of the boring bar, not the inserts it takes. I would expect the boring bar to take CC**09 inserts.

The code does give quite a bit of info about what insert the holder is intended for

            Type of clamping S

            Shape of insert, C

            Clearance angle C

            Edge length of insert 09

Only thing you don't get from that is corner radius and M or G tolerance

I have just looked through my purchase history on ebay and can confirm that the inserts you require are CCMT09. They are also available in aluminium grade H01 which will be CCGT09. The inserts have a side measurement of about 9mm and are single sided with two acute cutting edges. There are tools made for turning which use the other two obtuse corners, which otherwise would be wasted.

                  Thanks Old Mart,

                  That is very useful info.
