      Hi

Has anyone have any up to date opinions on multifix tool posts and their clones.

I use a four post tool holder normaly. I also have a Dickson tool post but on some of the holders clamping is poor and the cam can go over centre. Some do not hold the centre height between tool changes.

      Buy cheap buy twice!

      Any advice is welcome.

On the overcentre ones, glue a shim on the part against which the tophat bit pulled by the cam itself pulls.

Excellent system, would not go back to Dickson/Aloris style toolholders.

I can’t comment on the clones, but when I used a genuine Multifix on a Colchester Student at evening classes it was a joy.

I have the smallest Multifix from PeWe tools on my Pultra and I am very happy with it , I did a bit of research before buying and went to them because they said they are made from the original tooling, ( how true that is I can’t say) but I am happy with it.

Thanks for that, Dell … very interesting indeed.

I've got the Multifix clone from PeWe tools on my 254 for the past eighteen months or so, fit and finish is excellent. gets used fairly intensively for a home machine and am still delighted with it and have had no problems. PeWe are great to deal with and although out of stock at time of ordering it arrived exactly when promised. I've used the larger genuine ones at work and am a great fan of this type of toolpost. PeWe are the only supplier of one the correct size for the Myford 254 and I was a little concerned when ordering as I had never heard of them before, but very pleased with the whole deal, must order more toolholders!

Dave, I have the PeWe Tools Multifix on my Warxo GH1322, I'm very ahppy with it and its holders. PeWe were very easy to deal with and the kit came well picked and protected.

I used Multifix for 20 years at my work place and also in Switzerland, nothing better.

I would definitely buy one of the better ones for my lathe – but only if I could justify (and afford) the expense, for a hobby machine that is not used every day, or even every other day.

For two cutter angles, I think I would restrain the tool-post T-nut in position and arrange a couple of stops in the compound slide slot – meaning I can’t justify the expense for such a luxury.🙂

Little or no mention here of the UK Chronos Multifix offerings. I bought one for my Boxford some time ago, plus later additional tool-holders which all fit well. The price seems reasonable, they look well finished and, so far, I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Excuse me for my laziness – I think I may have a partial answer to my query somewhere on this cluttered, shambolic HDD. However, even if I can find it, it will be out of date…

There seems to be several Multifix clones, and some 'badge engineering' complicating things. Does anyone know the countries of origin of the various clones? I have a suspicion ( = unreliable memory) that the PeWe clones originate in PRC.

This looks to be a very informative video … which I shall watch with breakfast:

Again thank you for all your replies

It apears to me most if not all are made in China and that the quality and price depends on the retailer, his margins, and what the customer will accept and be willing to pay.
