Hello,
Can anyone suggest a reputable sharpening service for HSS End Mills and Slot Drills please, at affordable prices? I seem to recall someone used to periodically advertise such a service on the Homeworkshop website in order to raise funds for (I think) a Hospice but have not seen the advert repeated for some time now, so am unsure if that service is still available or indeed how to contact them. Alternatively, are there any such companies geared up to support the Model Engineering fraternity?

Suggest you try Abbco in Nottingham. They have a web site with contact details . They were originally adjacent Myfords when they were in Beeston in Nottingham.

Drill Services of Horley in Surrey, near Gatwick may sharpen small batches.

+1 for ABBCO, excellent service and quality. I used to stop by every year on the way to Harrogate Show, They even recovered a cherished long cutter which had met an unfortunate end (on someone else's mill)!

Raynor Toolservices in Market Drayton raynortoos.co.uk – about once a year I send them a mixed bag of milling cutters with instructions to grind to the next imperial size down and they come back individually boxed up and labelled having been CNC ground.

My last lot cost between £3 and £10 each depending on the size of the cutter. Vat on top I guess.

Unless they are very special cutters, is it really worth paying £3 – £10 for resharpening when new cutters won't cost much more, if anything, with careful shopping around?

Surely it’s better to regrind the cutters than throw them away

The advert on the Home Workshop web site was from a guy in Chelmsford and he only ground the end lips. New cutter or re- grind I do regrind my own on a Clarkson but it’s awfully tempting to just buy a new one if you have to post or take them somewhere to be reground.
