Hi everyone,
I hope you don't mind me dropping in to ask for help from you knowledgeable people!
I recently acquired an ML7, which came with fixed and traveling steady rests. When I came to use one of them I realised they are not for this lathe!
I am yet to find pictures online resembling what I have. Closest are Myford and Raglan.
The centre height (which I believe is the distance from bed-centre?) is 4".
The fixed steady seems to be for slideways spaced 1 1/16" apart.
The traveling steady has a dovetail of which the male counterpart would be perhaps 2 1/4" wide across the top.
The only markings are on the underside of the traveling steady: MF 275-6 cast-in, and 1303 stamped adjacent (pictured).
From my research these could perhaps be from a Myford 4" 'Precision' Lathe. The MF prefix to the part number is consistent with the information I can find on the 4" nomenclature. The serial number 1303 is consistent with the believed roughly 500 unit run of this model (Myford serial nos always starting at 1001 i believe?).
The clamping plate on the underside of the fixed steady looks like it might be similar to that of ML2-4 models, from what I can find on the matter.
As for the dovetail on the traveling steady, which is clearly a diversion from normal Myford design – Later models of the 4" were available with an 11" cross slide, which might explain the choice?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
Rich
