Does anybody know if SPG Tools of Hinkley are still in business.

I was going to send a link to their web-site to a chum and I can NOT access the site. It seems that the Domain is up for sale.

        Happy New Year

Don't know, but their last posting on their Facebook page was in March 2018, so it's not looking good. As you say, their website appears defunct.

I bought my Mill from them in 2020 during the lockdown – so they were certainly in business then.

I am happy with the Mill so wanted to tell somebody else about it.

                .

Presumably, therefore, you will have a receipt and can cross-check that Company number that I found.

I've got my receipt from buying a mill from there in 2015. No company number on it but company name and address are the same.

Website was up and running a few weeks ago when I had cause to look at it.

I bought my lathe from them quite some time ago and bits since. The website was fine before Xmas. Most likely forgot to renew their Domain Name – even big companies can cock this up (don't ask me how I know…).

The person with whom I communicated was Simon Gudger when I was negotiating the purchase.

I'm NOT particularly worried about wether a web site works but the fact that the domain is offered for sale does concern me.

Thank you ALL for taking the time to respond.

I'm a little surprised that the Web-site worked for Mr. Lewis when it would NOT work for me!

I have written to the address provided by Mr. Downes and await a response.

My experience with web-sites is that they often display incorrect information – on the basis of a web-site, I went to the nearest Lidl to buy a box of 107 HSS drill bits for £14.99 (as mentioned in another thread) only to find that I was wasting my time!

The Interweb is the last place that I will look for information about anything!

What web address did you use Howard? https://www.spgtools.com/lathe-accessories gets a Wix error:

                            Connected To A Website Yet!

As Wix are a website hosting service maybe SPG need to put a shilling in the meter.

… which is simply Google’s ‘directory’ in action, and to understand what that involves:

It’s worth following the link that I have ringed in green.

I'm afraid that the Green encircled link does NOT work on my system but I am grateful to everybody who has (and perhaps still is) looking into this for me.

I have written to the firm and will know, in due time, if they are still in business.

When I was buying my Mill from SPG, they rarely answered the telephone and I was reduced to leaving an message on a Telephone Answering Machine – so I don't believe there would be any point in ringing.

With best wishes and thanks again.

It's a bad time of year to jump to conclusions. Apart from it being the Xmas/New Year Holiday period, the UK is experiencing very high sickness rates at the moment due to Omicron COVID. One in ten Londoners last week.

COVID may not be bothering stay at home pensioners much, or bumping large numbers of people off thank god, but it's causing havoc in the workforce at the moment. When my son returned to work on the 5th, he was one of six out of twenty – more than two thirds of his colleagues were off-sick with COVID.

In the circumstances it wouldn't be surprising if a small-business failed to notice they hadn't renewed their website subscription. The website provider is probably fully automatic. All their staff could be sick, while the computer still sends out reminders and disconnects anyone who hasn't paid their bill!

                                          Wait and see.

I have written to SPG and will see if anybody replies.

Although I am a pensioner, I am a member of a number of Clubs and Societies and am avoiding those where attendance would involve travelling on public transport (specifically Tube and 'bus).

I accept Mr. Duffer's suggestion – waiting will NOT do any hard!

I looked at my Mill a few minutes ago and could not see any clue as to the manufacturer. I expect that the same model is sold by other companies with different labels.

With best wishes and thanks again.

SPG Tools website didn't have a .EU domain suffix, did it? If it did one of the consequences of Brexit is that, and I think I am correct in stating this, from 1/1/2022 no non-EU domiciled company or organisation can register or own this suffix.

No doubt one of the more tech savvy contributors will correct me on this point if I am wrong.

That's an amazing piece of detective work – worthy of Sherlock Holmes himself !!

                                                    Thank you

I have a SP9512-B Mill; that's NOT listed on the Sumore web-site but their SP2240 looks identical (as far as I can see).

I have noted the URL for the future – but that won't be particularly useful if they don't have another UK distributor

With best wishes and thanks again.
