Hi – Can anyone suggest a source of replacement surgical blades for Swann Morton scalpel handles available in small quantities as opposed to packets of 100 which seem to be the norm.. The top photo shows handle No.3 which takes blade size #10 and a second handle No.4 for which I do not have the blade number

Any model shop should have them or try any online model shop. Wonderland models has packs of 10 blades for 99p (usual disclaimer). do check though as some shops charge considerably more!!

            Hello Greensands,

Google 'Swann Moreton Scalpel blades' as I've just done and you will find hosts of suppliers selling in small quantities (eg packs of 5)

            Regards

            Brian

Or you can re-sharpen with a polishing mop, makes Exacto blades sharper than new

Remember not to buy the surgical ones which are sterilised by gamma radiation, they cost more. One of mine is retractable which makes storage a lio safer.

I use a fine diamond slip, never makes them as good as new though!

They look like the ones I collect from Balsa Cabin in Maldon, Essex, in packs of 5. They do have a website so one can check which size you require & there is a phone No on the website.

                                      .

The top photo shows handle No.3 which takes blade size #10 and a second handle No.4 for which I do not have the blade number

                                      .

I think there may be some confusion regarding the numbering … To the best of my knowledge, the number on the blade identifies the shape of the blade : I certainly have several shapes of blade, all of which fit any of my handles.

I’ve been meaning to find a chart, for my own purposes, so will share it here [if and when]

Incidentally, as no-one else seems to have asked … are you parting-off rubber rings, or what ?

I've certainly bought packets of blades on ebay in small quantities of 20 or so at a time, but this seems to be no longer an option. It looks like you can buy a handle bundled with replacement blades but a very limited selection..

Pretty sure I've got some shape 10 blades to fit your number 3 handle you can have, IIRC they come in a little silver foil packet of 5 but won't be sterile. I've got other shapes as well so it's as well MichaelG has found the encyclopedia of SwannMorton.

I doubt if I've got anything to fit a number 4 handle but I will check in the morning. Maybe you can recognise the shape of blade you need from the SwannMorton catalogue. If you would like to advise what shape you want if I do have some you're welcome.

If you're interested drop me a PM.

                                          Rgds Simon

edit – correction I think you'll find that shape blade in the number 3 handle is a 10A
