      Hi All,

Just bought a fiar bit of stuff from a defunct watchmakers shop and found this little tool.

The table slides up and down and the lever moves back and forward to the fence.

I’ve not seen the like of it before, Martin … So let me start the guessing :

It looks like a rather specialised ‘holder-downerer’

I think it could be tool for holding a balance wheel while the balance screws are adjusted.

This a picture of the tool

The round copper object could possibly a token from the days when no-one could bring themselves to speak in an outright manner. We still don't have a name for the process by which we void waste, and this is the proverbial 'penny' that we claimed to be 'spending'.

                  Cheers, Tim
