Looking for suggestions how to repair, or know where I can get electrical drawings of the tachometer system on my Boxford 9" variable speed lathe.

Problem is, tach reads max RPM all the time when lathe is running. Mechanical speed control works fine.

Hi Peter,
I would think it should be fairly simple to to work out what's wrong with the tachometer without a schematic. Is it an analogue or digital display ? I tried to find the schematic with Google but could not even find a picture of the lathe showing the tachometer display. It is possible that the tachometer is not part of the original lathe.

You need to join the Boxford Yahoo group, you find the answer there!

PS. VSL + tacho is original. The tacho is a smiths car unit and the pickup is on the countershaft (top left corner). Yours probably has swarf in it like mine did!

Your right Mark, it is a Smiths Tach. and is original equipment on the lathe. Good point about swarf, I'll have a look.

And I'll have alook at Yahoo Boxford group.
