As there are no small dividing heads available to suit my machine I am considering making one similar in design to the Hoffman geared unit.

As I am not familiar with the internal gear set-up/connection an exploded view of a unit would point me in the right direction to see if it is possible for me to make in a smaller size.

        Any help appreciated, Emgee

          Emgee,

This has some very good sectional drawings

… How small are you thinking ?

Emgee, if you are looking for a small dividing head, you can't go far wrong with the GHT Versatile dividing head, a kit for this is sold by Hemingway Kits

I built one of these some years ago and find it very useful on small and large machines, and a fun project to build

No affiliation to Hemingway, just a very satisfied customer.

              Hi

Thanks to MichaelG for the link, just what I needed.

Size I'm aiming for will be 1.75" to centre in horizontal mode, max chuck size will be 3" and the extra 1/4" clearance is in case the chuck jaws are outside the chuck body.

This size will suit my needs as mostly I am working with small items and will even when in vertical mode still leave reasonable distance spindle to job.

Thanks Graeme for your post, the GHT is OK but to use at an angle or in a vertical mode it needs fitting to a tilting table and so then becomes too large for my needs.

              Regards, Emgee

                Emgee,

Do please post your thoughts and experiences with this one !!

… I could use something that size too.
